Prof. Zheng H. (George) Zhu

Title: Mission Design of DEorbiting SpaceCrafts using ElectrodyNamic Tethers (DESCENT)



Zheng H. (George) Zhu received his B.Eng., M.Eng. and Ph.D. degrees in engineering mechanics from Shanghai Jiao Tong University located in Shanghai, China. He also received his M.A.Sc. in robot control from University of Waterloo and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from University of Toronto both located in Ontario, Canada. 

From 1993 to 1995, he worked as a research associate in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, University of Toronto. From 1995 to 2006, he was a senior engineer with the Indal Technologies located in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. He joined York University in Toronto, Canada as a professor in 2006. He is currently the Tier I York Research Chair professor in Space Technology. He is the author of more than 200 articles. His research interests include dynamics and control of electrodynamic tether system for space debris removal, autonomous on-orbit service robot for space debris removal, and multifunctional materials for spacecraft structures. 

He is the Editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Space Science and Engineering.

Dr. Zhu is the Fellow of Engineering Institute of Canada, associate Fellow of AIAA, Fellow of Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineering, senior member of IEEE, member of ASME, and a licensed Professional engineer in Ontario.
